Boy Drowns In Golf Course Pond In Fort Lupton

FORT LUPTON, Colo. (CBS4) - A 3-year-old boy is dead after falling into a golf course pond on Saturday.

The incident happened at 10 a.m. near a home that sits along the Coyote Creek Golf Course in Fort Lupton.

Police say Aaidan Small-Lawson was at home with his grandmother. When she went into another room the he opened the door and went outside.

An off-duty firefighter living nearby found Small-Lawson in the golf course pond about 15 to 20 feet off shore.

"The officers came over and conducted a search along with many in the neighborhood and the fire department and they found him in the pond; started doing CPR," Chief Ken Poncelow with Fort Lupton police said. "We put him on Air Life and tranported him to Children's Hospital where he later passed away."

Poncelow can't recall an outdoor drowning in Fort Lupton in the 23 years he's been in the department.
