Pet Store Ban Supporters Didn't Gather Enough Signatures

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4)- A student at Colorado State University's goal to take on puppy mills and kitten factories by focusing on pet stores, did not gather enough signatures to get the measure on the ballot.

Laurie Molitor was behind an effort to put a proposal banning sales of pets at all Fort Collins stores to voters. The proposal would have allowed pet adoptions at shelters or in stores. Fish would have been exempt from the ban.

Molitor failed to gather 2,517 signatures from registered voters required to get the measure on the city's April ballot.

Wednesday, Feb. 16 was the deadline for signatures.
