Focus Reaching Out To Abortion-Rights Advocates

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Focus on the Family president Jim Daly says he will reach out to abortion-rights advocates in an effort to make abortion less common.

Daly's comments on his radio show Friday and reported by The Denver Post signals a shift in the ministry's stance that abortion is always wrong. Daly says the ministry will continue to work to outlaw abortion but says he hopes working with abortion-rights advocates might eliminate up to 30,000 abortions each year.

Focus on the Family spokesman Gary Scheenberger says there's no list yet on which groups the ministry will reach out to.

Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains officials say they're willing to listen.

Daly replaced James Dobson after the conservative Christian ministry's founder cut ties with the organization in October 2009.
