Forsberg To Make Season Debut

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Peter Forsberg is expected to play in his first NHL game since 2007-08 when the Colorado Avalanche play at the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night.

The team confirmed the Swedish star, a former Hart Trophy winner as league MVP, was able to clear up some lingering immigration paperwork. He is expected to play on the same line with center Matt Duchene and right wing Milan Hejduk (MEE’-lahn HAY’-dook).

He began practicing Jan. 22 to see if he was physically able to play after several troublesome injuries. Forsberg agreed to a contract on Feb. 6.

The 37-year-old helped the Avalanche win two Stanley Cups during 11 seasons with the franchise. He captured the 2003 Hart Trophy, leading the league with 106 points (29 goals and 77 assists) in 75 games.
