Suspect Arrested In '96 Cold Case Murder

DENVER (CBS4)- A murder suspect wanted in the killing of a woman in Denver back in 1996 was arrested in Las Vegas.

Chester Leroy Todd, 67, is being held without bond in Las Vegas.

Todd is suspected of killing Sherri Lynn Majors, 27. She was last seen the night of March 17, 1996. Her body was found the next morning in a downtown alley near 23rd and Blake Street.

Police in Denver identified Todd as a suspect almost immediately. A warrant was issued for his arrest. He was an over-the-road trucker at the time. When he realized there was a warrant out for his arrest, it is believed he abandoned his tractor trailer at a truck stop in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Denver District Attorney's Office formally charged Todd with first degree murder in 1996, but his whereabouts have been unknown until he was located earlier this week in Las Vegas.

The extradition process to get Todd back to Denver could take up to 90 days.
