Broncos Receiver Thomas Injures Achilles Tendon; Out 6 To 8 Months

Englewood (CBS4) -- CBS4 Sports has learned, Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas has suffered a torn achilles tendon. While the extent of the injury, either a partial or full tear, has not been revealed, the Broncos tweeted late Thursday that Thomas' recovery would take 6 to 8 months.

Thomas suffered the injury Wednesday during an offseason workout in Georgia.

Broncos new head coach John Fox released a statement on Thomas Thursday afternoon:

"I have no doubt that Demaryius will overcome this setback. He's proven he can handle adversity and will get through this. We look forward to getting Demaryius back on the field as soon as possible."

Thomas is coming off an injury-plagued rookie season after being selected by the Broncos in the first round of last year's draft. He missed the season opener after aggravating a foot injury suffered in college during training camp. He missed 5 games late in the season because of an ankle injury.

The injury is another blow to the Broncos receiving corp.  Eddie Royal is rehabbing after hip surgery that could keep him sidelined for upto six months.  The Broncos however are hopeful that Royal will be ready for OTA's in May.
