DENVER (CBS4)- Police in Denver have cited the owner of a valet parking company after one of its employees died last month in a hit and run accident.

Jose Medina was killed while helping customers outside the Rock Star bar at 9th and Lincoln Jan. 22. He was working as a valet when he was hit by a pickup truck driver who drove away.

The valet business owner, Everardo Garcia, was cited for operating without a license.

A city spokesperson said it is the valet company’s responsibility to take out a license when working with a bar or restaurant.

    The license is just a fee collected by the city. The real questions are;
    who would pay if a valet damaged a car?
    does the owner have valid liability insurance?
    is the valet’s family covered by a valid worker’s compensation policy?
    was the valet being paid any compensation by the owner, or just tips?
    Go deeper here, and I suspect you will find a lot more…
