Oklahoma Tanning Salon Reaches Settlement In Colorado

DENVER (AP) - Colorado's attorney general says an Oklahoma-based tanning chain has reached a settlement over claims it misled customers about its contract terms.

Attorney General John Suthers said Monday that At The Beach will pay $350,000 in restitution, fines and attorney fees to settle the claims. Suthers said consumers who tried to cancel their contracts were told they had to pay half of the remaining contract.

The company has already paid more than $45,000 in refunds and an estimated $100,000 is waiting to be refunded to 300 former customers who filed complaints. An additional $75,000 will be paid by the company for additional claims.

The company also agreed to maintain an audio copy of every sale and update its contracts to make the terms clear. Company officials didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.
