Reward Offered For Arrest In Deadly Hit & Run

DENVER (CBS) - The search is on for the driver of an pickup truck who hit and killed a valet outside a downtown Denver nightclub over the weekend.

Someone ran down Jose Medina late Saturday night outside the Rockstar nightclub on Lincoln, near 9th.

Medina was standing by a car helping the people inside when witnesses say the pickup crashed into the car and Medina, causing damage to the vehicle in addition to killing him.

Witnesses say the vehicle was speeding and kept on going after the crash. Other valets and a cab driver tried to chase it down, but they couldn't stop it. The cab driver was able to follow the pickup for a while and report the license plate to police.

"I don't see how you can live with yourself day by day and not turn yourself in and just realize that you really took somebody's life," witness James Caltown said.

Denver police say the suspect vehicle was a "white, older model (03-05) GMC extended cab pick-up with tinted windows and with Colorado license plate # 895VYF." Officers say the pickup has damage to the bumper and its right front fender.

Saturday was Medina's third day on the job.

"There's just no excuse for not stopping. Accidents do happen. Whoever it was was driving at a very great rate of speed and really destroyed the majority of the car that Jose was valeting and he flew 100 to 200 feet," said Gabriel Schwartz, a family friend who is also the Medina family's attorney.

Police are offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case.
