Officer Allegedly Found Loveland Teacher Naked With Student

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS) - The Loveland teaching instructor who is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old boy was caught naked in a car with the teen last Friday night, according to police documents.

Courtney Bowles, 31, of Fort Collins, faces sex assault charges in the case. On Monday she made an appearance in Larimer County Court by video from the jail after spending the weekend there.

The police officer who allegedly discovered the two people together was on a routine patrol in North Lake Park after the park had closed. The arrest affadavit states the officer spotted a car in the park and went over to it with a flashlight. In the back seat were two people who had no clothes on -- Bowles and the teen. The officer told them to get dressed and then began asking them questions and asked for identification.

The teen male lied about his age at first and then admitted he was 16, according to the affadavit. The officer noticed a bottle of Vodka and some soda in the car. The officer wrote in the report that Bowles said she bought the alcohol and that the teen "only had only one sip."

Students from Mountain View High School where Bowles teaches say they are shocked by the charges. Sophomore Austin Ryan told CBS4's Tom Mustin that she is a popular figure at the school.

"I know that she works with students around here and I've seen her and I've said hi and she's said hi before" Ryan said. "Everyone says she's a cool teacher and they all like her and she's nice."

Officials with the Thompson School District met with parents on Monday to answer questions about the allegations. The district told CBS4 student safety is not something it takes lightly, and that Bowles' background check came back clean before she was hired.

Bowles is now free on a $50,000 bond. As part of that agreement she is not allowed to be within 100 feet of anyone under the age of 18.
