I-70 Reopens In High Country After Tanker Rollover

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- Interstate 70 was closed westbound at Georgetown overnight for many hours because of a tanker rollover in Clear Creek County. The closure ended at about 4:30 a.m.

Eastbound lanes were closed at Bakerville, but reopened at 8:35 p.m. Sunday.

A trailer came unhitched from the semi Sunday evening, and rolled over at mile marker 228. The tanker was carrying Methanol.

Methanol is also known as wood alcohol, and can be used as an alternative fuel.

The tanker can hold up to 40,000 gallons. The Methanol was leaking at a rate of a half-gallon a minute.

Officials were concerned about people inhaling or being exposed to the chemical. Environmental hazardous materials crews were on the way to the rollover to clean up what spilled.

There were no injuries.
