Police Seek Information On Snowmass Skier's Death
SNOWMASS VILLAGE, Colo. (AP) -- Police and the coroner are looking closer at the death of a 77-year-old skier after hearing that he complained of being forced off the slope by someone.
Authorities say Thomas Berglund of Kalamazoo, Mich., died Tuesday after struggling to get out of deep snow at the Snowmass ski area. They say he suffered cardiac arrest when ski patrol members tried to help him and couldn't be resuscitated at the hospital.
Berglund reportedly told a passerby that he'd been forced off the slope by a "kid." Aspen Skiing Co. officials say no witnesses have come forward with information.
"It was sad. We loved Tom. To lose him like that we expected him to live to be 100 and an old geezer. It was somewhat shocking to lose him," said Berglund's former co-worker Connie Mumford.
Snowmass police want to hear from anyone with information. Pitkin County Coroner Steve Ayers says he'll perform an autopsy after hearing what Berglund said.
