Sen. Williams Loses Committee Post After Crash

DENVER (AP) - A Colorado state senator involved in a fatal crash in Texas won't be appointed to head the Senate Transportation Committee.

State Sen. Suzanne Williams served as vice chairwoman of the committee last year and was expected to head it this year.

Senate Majority Leader John Morse said Monday he removed Williams from consideration for the post because he's worried she won't be able to do a full-time job. The accident is being investigated, and a grand jury is expected to consider the case.

Authorities say Williams was driving Dec. 26 when her SUV drifted into oncoming traffic near Channing, Texas.

The accident killed Brianna Gomez of Amarillo, a pregnant passenger in the other vehicle. Doctors saved her unborn son.
