Ritter To Take Green Energy Position At CSU

DENVER, (CBS4) - Gov. Bill Ritter announced Wednesday morning that he will take a job at Colorado State University after leaving office next week.

Ritter says he will be director of CSU's Center for the New Energy Economy. His position will focus on an issue he worked hard on during his time in office.

Ritter leaves office on Jan. 11, when Denver mayor John Hickenlooper will be sworn in as Governor.  Once Ritter moves out of the Governor's mansion he plans to continue living in Denver and will commute to Fort Collins.

He said he jumped at the chance to go to work for his Alma Mater, CSU.

"When president Frank approached me it was one of those things that resonated immediately."

Ritter will be paid 300-thousand dollars per year. Tony Frank, the President of CSU,  says Ritter's salary will come from private funding. Frank says having a former Governor on campus will benefit students.

"One of the side benefits that I think will come from this is having the opportunity to put someone of Governor Ritter's stature and put him in front of students." Frank said, "I think some of the benefits that will derive from that will be pretty impressive as well."

Governor Ritter joked to CBS 4 Northern Newsroom Reporter Mike Hooker, his new job wasn't the biggest job news of the day.

"None of us are going to get highest billing." The outgoing Governor said, "John Elway is going back to the Broncos. That's going to be highest billing."
