Wildlife Officials Review Hunting Rules

DENVER (CBS4) - On Wednesday the Colorado Division of Wildlife is set to get its first look at a proposal to change some hunting rules in Colorado.

The issue is whether hunters should be allowed to kill animals in their dens.

Last year a hunter near Craig tracked a 700 pound black bear to its den and shot it.

When CBS4 talked to officials with the department they admitted it was not illegal. Officials did, however, question the ethics of the hunt.

"There are certainly ethical standards within the hunting community; don't shoot ducks on a pond, don't shoot turkeys on a roost, don't shoot bears in a den," Randy Hampton department spokesman with the Division of Wildlife said.

Other states like Pennsylvania and Michigan have adopted rules to ban den hunting.
