Denver (CBS4) – Champ Bailey may have already played his last game in a Denver Broncos uniform. The veteran cornerback is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the San Diego Chargers, meaning there is a 50 percent chance he’ll play. But that is only half of the story.
Bailey is a free agent after the season, and talks between him and the Broncos have stopped. Earlier in the season, the two looked ready to agree on a contract extension, but talks fell apart, and now Champ does not know what will happen after the Sunday’s season finale.
Thursday, Bailey said he was optimistic that he could still get a deal done to remain in Denver, but admitted that he “doesn’t hold all the cards.” He continued saying “it’s one of those things I’ve got to wait and see. If it happens it happens. If it’s my last game, it’s my last game. So be it.”
Bronco fans, including Champ’s teammate Brian Dawkins, can’t image the perennial all-pro leaving the orange and blue. Also Thursday, Dawkins said not having Champ, a player who is consistently asked to go out and shut down the opposing team’s best receiver, is something that “a lot of fans would not see coming.”
But Sunday may mark the end of the Champ Bailey era in Denver. As Champ says, we’ll have to wait and see.
