In Evergreen the Skate the Lake annual celebration features pond skating and another polar plunge. This one is a plunge into the chilly lake through a hole cut into the ice. Get more info at and

Skating is also recommended at the Southwest Rink at Skyline Park in downtown Denver next to the 16th Street Mall, where the following special event is taking place New Year’s Day:

7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
World Music Night – Paa Kow’s By All Means Band
Head to the rink to hear Ghana Native Paa Kow, an international touring drumset player, composer, director, and teacher of music. He has shared the stage with African greats: Kojo Antwi, George Darko, Hugh Masekela, Vusi Mahlasela, Amakye Dede, as well as American Greats: Victor Wooten, Michael Kang and Chris Berry’s Panjea.
