AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) – A new program allows Boys & Girls Club members to make and sell jewelry on the Web. It’s an opportunity to expand their creative and entrepreneurial spirit.
The Boys & Girls Clubs are working with Bead It! in Englewood and Antelope Beads in Boulder to get supplies. The members designed jewelry pieces and made them in a competition. The top designs were replicated by Bead It! staff to ensure quality and now the pieces are for sale in an online auction. Members who worked on the jewelry say the project fostered a sense of pride.
“They’re like, ‘I accomplished this’, so their like really excited that somebody likes their work,” said Kaliegh Brame, 12, a 2-year member of the club.
The experiment in small business prompted the students and staff at the Boettcher branch to expand. They’ve continued making jewelry and have started another Web page to sell it. The kids are working hard to make their enterprise a success.
“We’re trying to get our page built up and more business to come in,” Brame explained.
The money raised through the Cool Jewels by Kids project will be used to fund charity projects inspired by club members.
You can support all the programs at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver by dropping off a new toy at the Care 4 Colorado donation bins in all Metro area King Soopers stores until December 31st.
