Hit & Run Case: SUV Was In Previous Crash

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4) - CBS4 has learned an SUV being investigated in a hit-and-run involving a pregnant woman was in a previous accident that left it damaged.

Laurie Gorham was run over in her Stapleton neighborhood. Her unborn child died because of the injuries.

Denver police impounded an SUV about a week ago after a witness reported seeing the damaged vehicle in the same neighborhood. The SUV is registered to Augustine Arroyo and a police report from Commerce City shows the SUV was in an accident in October.

Denver investigators are still going over the vehicle very carefully, including testing a human hair which was found on it.

Denver announced Thursday it will make changes to the intersection at 29th and Central Park. That includes increasing the size of the stop signs and adding "stop ahead" warning signs.

There is also a plan to increase the wattage of the existing street lights.
