Charitable Thrift Store Burglarized

LONGMONT, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Longmont are looking for a burglar who stole hundreds of dollars from a charitable thrift store.

The safe is missing from Hope's Storehouse in Longmont along with $800 that was inside. Hope's CEO says the money was going to help less fortunate families in Longmont and Africa.

The store gives proceeds to Help International, which ships food, clothes and medical supplies abroad.

Employees say they're heartbroken because the burglar stole from the poorest of the poor.

"It's money that people have given to others and to have it stolen is really sad," Jean Kaye with Hope's Storehouse said.

Police say they have several persons of interest and all are past employees of the store.

The store plans on buying a security system and perhaps surveillance cameras -- money they'd rather spend on helping others.
