A '2nd Black Friday' Ahead For Walmart In Colorado

Written by Paul Day

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS) - It worked so well the day after Thanksgiving that the nation's No. 1 retailer has decided to try for an encore performance.

Starting Friday night, Walmart is holding "Toys and More" -- a price slashing sales event some are comparing to a 2nd Black Friday.

"Oh, I should put all this back," says Walmart shopper Amber Brown when she was told the news after partially filling her shopping cart this week.

Walmart says it will drop prices on nearly 100 top selling toys and electronics.

"The big reason we're doing an additional one is because of the success with the original Black Friday," explained Jody O'Neal, Manager of the Walmart Store at Wadsworth and Colfax in Lakewood.

But there may be another reason: sagging business in the USA.

Just last month, Walmart announced the sixth straight quarter of declining sales.

To be sure, the weekend will witness some great Walmart deals. O'Neal points to the PS3 toy which is regularly priced at $299. For the weekend sale, the PS3 includes a free Walmart gift card worth $100.

It's a welcome opportunity for customers to stretch their hard earned dollar.

Says another Walmart shopper, Crystal Alcantar, "It sounds nice, my family and I especially like to shop for Black Friday.

The deals begin at 9 p.m. on Friday and continue through Sunday or until supplies run out.

The promise of a better bargain is already causing some shoppers to rearrange their weekend.

"We need to come back tomorrow," Amber told her son Zion on Thursday.
