Boulder County Gets $1.3M Grant To Rehab Fourmile Fire Area

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - Boulder County has received a $1.3 million federal grant to help restore areas burned by the Fourmile Fire in September that destroyed 169 homes.

The grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service will help pay for mulching, seeding, weed management and other measures to prevent flooding where vegetation burned in the mountains west of Boulder.

The county will also use $436,000 in local matching funds and a total of $2.8 million from the state and federal agencies. The county will use helicopters to apply straw mulch and seed along roadsides to prevent the spread of weeds.

The wildfire started Sept. 6 from a pit fire that wasn't completely extinguished and burned about 10 square miles.
