The ban on drop down cribs issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission today has a lot of people saying “…It’s about time.” However, there are others who think the problem is more operator error than faulty product. Either way, lives of babies and toddlers will be saved as a result of the ban. The ban will go into effect in June 2011.
The problem is not that adults don’t know how to slide the gate up and down. The problem is sometimes the baby or toddler will move and get lodged in between the gate. They will either suffocate or hang themselves. Either way, it’s an accident that doesn’t have to happen.
