Aurora Man Dies After Getting Hit By Car On Colfax

AURORA, Colo.  (CBS4) - A man has died after getting hit by a vehicle in Aurora Tuesday morning.

Lt. Chuck DeShazer said Aurora police received a call about an auto pedestrian accident on East Colfax Avenue at Aurora Court.

"Police and fire personnel located an adult male lying in the middle lane of East Colfax west of Aurora Parkway. A black Volkswagen Passat was pulled off to the north side of the street," DeShazer said in a statement.

The victim was identified as Clifford Nash, 61, of Aurora. He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for extensive injuries.

"Once he was stabilized he was transported to a Denver hospital. Unfortunately, he died shortly after 9 p.m. (Tuesday) night as a result of the injuries suffered during the collision," DeShazer said.

The investigation revealed Nash had been on an eastbound bus with several other people. The group exited the bus and began to cross East Colfax. When they arrived at the raised median, all of them stopped except Nash.

The Passat driven by Janet Anderson, 31, of Aurora was traveling westbound.

"Her view of the median and Mr. Nash was blocked by another vehicle also westbound in the center lane and slightly ahead of her. Mr. Nash walked directly in front of Ms. Anderson and was struck by the Passat."

DeShazer said Nash was not using the pedestrian crossing signals.

No charges will be filed against Anderson.
