Mejia Kicks Off Denver Mayoral Campaign
DENVER (AP) - James Mejia is launching his campaign for Denver mayor.
He plans several events Tuesday, starting with a coffee in the Park Hill neighborhood home of his parents, Ophelia and David Mejia.
He has served as executive director of the Denver Preschool Program, on the Denver school board and as manager of the Denver Parks and Recreation Department in the Wellington Webb administration.
Others running for mayor are city council members Doug Linkhart and Michael Hancock, city employee Danny Lopez and state Sen. Chris Romer.
Mayor John Hickenlooper was elected governor Nov. 2. He plans to stay on the job until his Jan. 11 inauguration to avoid a special election. Deputy Mayor Bill Vidal will become acting mayor until the regular election in May.
