Land Battle Brewing In Douglas County

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - There's a land battle brewing in the foothills of Douglas County.

Out-of-state developers want to build a dam and reservoir around Wildcat Mountain south of Sedalia. People living nearby say the project would destroy the pristine scenery, reduce property values and put them in danger if the dam ever failed.

The Douglas County Planning Commission heard from residents Monday night.

The reservoir would be built south of Sedalia and Roxborough Park.

Developers still have a number of hurdles to clear before anything gets built. It's also too early to say what city, county or agency would get the water.

There are no plans to use the reservoir for recreation.

Next month the planning commission is set to send its recommendation on the project. The full board of commissioners would then take up the issue before making a final decision on whether to move forward.
