Aurora Woman Killed After Getting Hit By Van

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A woman has died after getting hit by a van early Tuesday morning in Aurora.

Lt. Chuck DeShazer said in a statement Aurora police received a call of an auto pedestrian accident on South Havana at East Mexico Avenue.

"Arriving personnel located an adult female lying in the street. The female was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries," DeShazer said.

The victim has been identified as Carmen Vasquez-Rios, 61, of Aurora.

DeShazer said Vasquez-Rios was attempting to cross South Havana, but failed to utilize the painted crosswalk provided at East Mexico Avenue.

"A 1983 Chevy Van driven by Rebecca Ramirez, 39, of Aurora, was traveling northbound in the number three lane (curb lane) and proceeded through the intersection with Mexico on a solid green traffic signal," DeShazer said. "Approximately 12 to 15 feet north of the crosswalk, the van and Ms. Vasquez-Rios collided."

No charges will be filed against Ramirez.
