Sex Offender Arrested At Children's Holiday Party

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (CBS4)- A sex offender wanted for failing to register was arrested at a children's Christmas program. An off-duty Mesa County Sheriff's Deputy arrested John Kerby Thursday afternoon.

Kerby, 30, was in the audience of the program at the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS in Grand Junction. He is wanted for multiple charges, including failure to register as a sex offender.

Deputies don't know why Kerby was at the program.

"We recommend that parents and everyone in the community who wants to educate themselves about sex offenders should do it all of the time and anytime. There's no particular time during the year that would be better for you to educate yourself about sex offenders," said Mesa County Sheriff Dept. spokeswoman Heather Benjamin.

Kerby is being held on a $13,500 bond.
