COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4)- Elementary school students in Commerce City received a big reward for making healthy changes. Rose Hill Elementary School was named the winner of the Fit 4 Colorado School Challenge for December.

The students and staff have made tremendous strides towards a healthier environment.

“I’m proud, we’re proud as a school staff that our kids embraced wellness,” said one school employee.

Lunches made in the cafeteria are crafted from fresh foods like salad, grapes, oranges, apples. The cafeteria has nixed chicken nuggets for grilled patties and french fries for roasted potatoes.

Those healthy food choices extend out to the playground where the school has a brand new nine station fitness course.

Those changes will hopefully have a long-term impact on every student.

Rose Hill was presented with a $1,000 check. The school plans to use the money to support healthy programs they already have in place.

I dont know what the big deal is? Beging healthy was something the entire district is doing not just Rose Hill. We have schools like kearney who were awarded by the CDE for being an excellent school. Dedicated to there students. As well as kemp who works excellent with students especially special Ed students. We cant say the same about Rose Hill, who has state complain with the CDE. This school may have some good deeds, but its sad to know that the greater problems are only being pushed aside. True they may work great with some students but they lack compasion to work with others who need a little more pacience and care.

Wolf in sheeps clothing. Isnt what trully matters about a school how they help and teach students be successful despite whether or not the child has a disability. The level of effort put into the children should be the same. Sadly the news and people with power are only interested in how well the school presents itself and not how the children area trully treated. I hope that Rose Hill will someday be as it was when Mrs.Pacheco was the principle. I hope the news will search deeper to recognize the people and schools that give there maximum to help our students.
