DENVER (CBS4)- Police in Denver are searching for the driver of a dark-colored SUV who hit a pregnant woman in a crosswalk on Thursday evening.

The incident happened near the intersection of Central Park Boulevard and E. 29th Avenue, in the Stapleton neighborhood. Officers said the driver most likely went through two stop signs before hitting the woman.

The woman who was hit was 34 weeks pregnant. She was rushed to Denver Health Medical Center where the doctors had to perform an emergency delivery of the child. The condition of the child was not being released but the mother’s condition was initially described as critical.

The victim was walking eastbound across Central Park Boulevard just after 5 p.m. when she was struck.

The suspect vehicle was described as a dark blue or black SUV or pickup truck. It was last seen traveling southbound on Central Park Boulevard.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Denver Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Bureau at (720) 337-1000 or call Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-STOP.

    The way the news casters covered this story during the 10 news was disheartening. They seemed more concerned about the possible charges of the driver versus the well being of the mother & baby and actual capture of the driver.

    How very sad for both the mother and her child. My prayers go out to them and the family. Being a mother who lost a child , my heart hurts for this lady.
    What has happened in out society that a driver does not feel responsible?
    What a coward to just drive away.
    Hopefully the police will find them or someone with a conscience will turn this driver in.

    That lady is my cousins wife and was his child a little boy to be born the first week in january. She was on her way home from a baby shower and this tragedy happened. The baby didn’t make it
