Today Jimmy and I spent some time fixing plates of food for the homeless at the Rescue Mission downtown.
(My cohort Jim Benemann was there too, but not the Jimmy I’m referring too!)
They got all the goodies – turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, green beans, cranberries, yams and rolls.
What a beautiful thing the Rescue Mission puts on.
I saw smiles galore around the room – and plates wiped clean.
When the guests walked out they got scarves, hats and gloves to take with them.
This is the second year Jimmy and I have taken part in it – and I hope it’s something we can continue with Elle as she gets older.
While what we did today was small, it mattered.
It mattered to the many men and women that thanked us on their way out.
That’s what this holiday is all about – getting outside of our “selves” and doing something for someone else.
Happy Thanksgiving….
