DENVER (CBS4) – The Black American West Museum, 3901 California Street, gives us all the chance to explore a part of Colorado history many don’t know about.
It’s a collection of artifacts set in the home of Dr. Justina Ford, the first African-American doctor in Colorado. Over a 50-year career, she delivered 7,000 babies.
The real focus of the museum is the celebration of the American cowboy. The museum also features an exhibit on the Buffalo Soldiers, African-American involvement with the U.S. military and a section honoring the Tuskegee airmen.
The museum includes contributions in medicine, the arts, broadcasting, education and civil rights, just to name a few.
